Known Issues
After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.7.4, the sensors named "Battery 1 Cell x" may be shown as being disconnected: Mac OS X 10.7.4 is not capable of accessing voltage data of individual battery cells. When running this OS version, such sensors will no longer be available. Other versions of Mac OS X are not affected.
Workaround: This is a known defect of Mac OS X 10.7.4 and there is no workaround. We are currently investigating if Apple is intentionally censoring this part of battery monitoring.
It may not be possible to enter a registration key for Hardware Monitor Remote when using Mac OS X Lion: If you try to enter a registration key to unlock Hardware Monitor Remote for use with Mac OS X 10.7 or later and this is a new installation on Lion (not an upgrade), you will receive the message "You have no permission to write registration settings for all users. Please ask the system administrator for assistance" and the registration won't be saved permanently.
Workaround: This is a known issue. In Lion, administrators no longer have permission to perform installation steps for standard applications which should become effective for all users.
If you have experience with the Unix command-line, this problem can be resolved easily: (If you don't like to use the command-line, please see the steps further below.)
- On the command-line, enter the command
sudo chgrp admin /Library/Preferences
exactly as shown and press the return key. Mac OS X will ask for your administrator password. - Enter the command
sudo chmod g+w /Library/Preferences
exactly as shown and press the return key. - Launch Hardware Monitor Remote and enter the registration data. It will now work as expected.
- On the command-line, enter the command
sudo chmod g-w /Library/Preferences
exactly as shown and press the return key. - Enter the command
sudo chgrp wheel /Library/Preferences
exactly as shown and press the return key.
Alternatively, you can resolve this problem with the Finder. However, note that the Lion Finder is very immature yet, so you need additional steps as workaround to make the Finder work correctly:
- Select the folder /Library/Preferences from the top level of your system disk in the Finder.
- Open the information panel by selecting the menu item File > Get Info.
- Ensure the section Sharing & Permissions is open and click on the lock to unlock it with your admin password.
- Press the button + below the table.
- In the accounts panel, select the group Users & Groups > Administators and press the Select button.
- You may have to close the panel and repeat steps (3) to (5) several times until the group admin actually appears in the permissions table.
- Set the privilege of admin to Read & Write.
- You may have to close the panel and repeat step (7) several times if the Finder doesn't switch to Read & Write correctly.
- Launch Hardware Monitor Remote and enter the registration data. It will now work as expected.
- Open the Info panel of the Finder once again after selecting the folder /Library/Preferences, click the line admin: Read & Write of the permissions table and press the - button below the table.
- You may have to repeat step (10) several times if the Finder does not remove the admin line as expected.
- After the line has been removed, close the Info panel.
Release Notes
When using Hardware Monitor or Temperature Monitor to connect to Hardware Monitor Remote version 4.92 or later, the clients must also run version 4.92 or later: Hardware Monitor Remote version 4.92 introduces an internal technical change which is not compatible with all features of network clients running a version prior to 4.92. Although older clients can connect to the monitored remote computer, the network link can be terminated unexpectantly.
Workaround: Update all clients to version 4.92 (or later) before updating Hardware Monitor Remote.

How can I remotely monitor the internal temperature sensors of Intel processors?
To use this feature, it is necessary that you first install our driver for accessing extended x86 information:
- Download and launch Hardware Monitor on the computer which should be monitored.
- Let the application install the necessary parts.
- Restart the monitoring service of Hardware Monitor Remote. You can remove Hardware Monitor after the driver has been installed if you only want to monitor the system remotely, not locally. The driver will remain on the system even if you remove the main application.
